Inspired by Isabella Guasconi, the young love-daughter of Grand Master de Valette, known for her exceptional beauty and whose murder at the hands of her jealous husband, was the cause of Jean Parisot de Valette’s own demise from a broken heart.

Our Isabella Guasconi Superior Malta DOK Rosé 2022 is produced from 60% Syrah 40% Mourvèdre vines.

2022 turned out to be the second-driest year of the past decade, with only 368 mm of rain measured. 41% of the year’s total precipitation was measured in November, the air temperature dipped to 4.2°C in January, and peaked at 39.2°C in August. The first four months of the year were colder than average, while the rest of the year was warmer than the norm. The vines were lush and could withstand the hotter months, the grapes matured a week earlier than the norm. This was the first harvest of Mourvèdre at Ta’ Betta, and given that this varietal reaches full maturation later than Syrah when harvested concurrently in late August, the Syrah was more forthcoming with sugar content, whilst the Mourvèdre contributed to the acidity and therefore freshness of this wine. The marriage of the flavours and backbone of these two varietals are noteworthy with our Isabella Guasconi Superior Malta DOK Rosé 2022.

The wine is juicy and well concentrated, round and ripe on the palate, offering strawberry, cherry and subtle blood orange notes. Medium bodied, pure, and luxurious, with a long finish.
